2012 Oscar Nominations

  Hey folks,

This morning brought tons of Oscar buzz across the world, with the announcement of the Oscar nominations for 2012. With the nominations being announced came questionable Oscar subs, well deserved nominees, new faces to the Oscar nominee lists,  and also the continuous well known actors/actresses who earned their places in Oscar categories.

With no other film earning spots in the double digit Oscar nods, The Artist  with 10 nods, earned it’s spot in the Best Picture category being the first black and white Best Picture nominee since George Clooney’s performance in the movie Good Night, and Good Luck. The last silent film to win this category was in 1927 for the movie ”Wings” being the only silent film to win the Best Picture…so far. Can The Artist out-do this years Oscars? I have no doubt in my mind they will be the biggest winners of the night.

Another movie that earned it’s rightful spot, actually top spot, in the double digits was the outstanding ,adventurous, creative movie Hugo with 11 nods. I just recently watched this film and let me tell you it’s not only a must see but its Scorsese’s creative talent and work that brought us such a great story to the big screen. GO HUGO!

Taking the spot in the Best Actress category is : Michelle Williams for “My Week With Marilyn “ and Rooney Mara for her role in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”.

Newcomer Gary Oldman got his first ever Oscar nod Best Actor, which surprisingly to me, beat DiCaprio for his role in Edgar.

The director category however did not include “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”, David Fincher. Did anyone actually see this movie? I watched 20mins of it and it just… didn’t interest me one bit.

Now lets talk about George Clooney shall we. This man has a nomination for Best Actor AND Adapted Screenplay category. For his roles in “The Descendants,” and for “The Ides of March”. (my god man slow down) which surprisingly left out Ryan Gosling from the Oscar nods this year even with his roles in The Ides of March and Drive, and with a face like that, how could he not be acknowledged. Dam.

Did anyone notice Spielberg was left out of the Director category, ouch! Although he grabbed a nod for War Horse for Best Picture, Adventures of TinTin didn’t get noticed.

Supporting actor category this year also added the name Max von Sydow of “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.” I have yet to see this film but am looking forward to doing so.

A very happy Canadian i’m sure today, is Christopher Plummer. He takes his place amongst the Best Supporting Actor category.

Can we talk about 2011 summers box office “take-over” HP and The Deathly Hallows Pt.2, for a minute. Okay “After all this time” , after the final chapter closed for HP fans, after Rickman’s final performance as Snape which, for me, being a late Harry Potter fan, and an instant lover of the films, did someone in the Oscar world forget about Snape’s performance? I’m sure Voldemort is laughing right now but “Snape got Snubbed” from the Oscars and that’s both surprising and disappointing. By the looks of all the internet posts, tumblr posts, and twitter i’m not the only one who feels the same.

I hope to see winners of :Hugo, The Help, Viola Davis, Christopher Plummer, Clooney, The Artist (somebody better bring Uggie).

Well cheers and be sure to check out the 84th annual academy awards ; February 26th.
